There are systematic programs for the recovery of mined areas and also to analyse, control and reduce particle emissions. These activities comply with the Brazilian and Corporate Environmental Policy as well as with the requirements of the international ISO 14000 standards, recently acquired.

Furthermore, Catalão has developed programs to search for alternative energy sources focusing on the replacement of the use of oil with renewable resources. Catalão strives to ensures a high quality standard of living to its employees and for that purpose has implemented a complete infrastructure with human resources development centers, schools, restaurants, transportation, nursery, medical assistance and leisure facilities.

The ore is mined from 3 sites, two of which located in Ouvidor (Fazenda Chapadão) and the third in Catalão (Fazenda Boa Vista), both cities in the state of Goiás, 800 Km northwest of the Santos seaport. Pyrochlore, the ore Processd at Catalão, is the main source of niobium with deposits of 13 million tonnes at an average content of 1% Nb2O5.
